Improving Access to Mental Health Services for Depression in Vietnam

Picture3 1.png

The World Health Organization and the Government of Canada have identified global mental health as a priority area requiring immediate action, particularly in response to COVID-19. Up to 75% of people in low- and middle-income countries like Vietnam do not have access to mental health care (WHO, 2019).

Services for depression using mobile technology, such as smartphones, may be an effective way to provide mental health services in Vietnam and globally. Yet, challenges including individuals’ familiarity with and acceptability of the technology must be explored, along with ensuring the correct adaptation of in-person interventions to mobile technology.
